Graphene oxide (GO) is the thinnest two-dimensional nanomaterial with abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, large specific surface area, and excellent mechanical and thermal stability, which is a relatively hot new material in recent years. In order to address the issue of reduced separation performance caused by electrostatic repulsion, hydration and agglomeration effects of single GO membranes in aqueous solutions, GO and polymer membrane can be combined to prepare composite membrane based on the high chemical and mechanical stability, oxidation resistance and biocompatibility of polymer membranes. The GO/polymer composite membranes can effectively enhance the permeability, contaminant retention rate, and stability of a single GO membrane, which have a broad application prospect in water treatment. In this paper, the preparation methods of GO/polymer composite membrane were reviewed, the removal mechanism of pollutants was analyzed and the application of composite membrane in the fields of water treatment was summarized. Finally, the future research direction of composite membrane was further prospected.
