The development of advanced CO2 solid adsorption materials with high efficiency and low energy consumption is a hot topic for carbon capture research, as the large amount of CO2 emission causes serious ecological and environmental problems. Biomass-derived porous carbon, which is low-cost,renewable and environmentally sustainable, shows great potential in variable pressure CO2 capture technology. This paper summarizes the synthesis method and pyrolytic activation mechanism of biomass-derived porous carbon, and reviews the application of biomass-derived porous carbon in CO2 capture, then elaborates the effect machanisms of porous structure and surface chemical properties of porous carbon on CO2 adsorption. Finally, it focuses on the means of regulating the physicochemical properties of the porous carbon and the innovative design methods, aiming at comprehensively discussing the potential application of biomass-derived porous carbon in CO2 capture from the perspective of the relationship between preparation parameters and structure and the relationship between structure and performance, then providing references for the further preparation of green and highly efficient solid adsorbents for CO2.
